Back in college, Matt Nelson created the account for fun, but soon thousands of dog owners began submitting pictures. He started giving them hilarious and affectionate ratings (always above 10).
By 2017, Nelson left college to run We Rate Dogs full-time. What began as memes turned into a global dog-loving movement that brightens millions of feeds daily.
“Every dog is the best dog,” Nelson told CBS News. “We just make sure the world knows it.”

One famous case, Gordough, was found sick and abandoned. The foundation funded his treatment, and today he’s living happily with his forever family.
“We realized we could actually make a difference,” Nelson said. “Now our audience helps dogs who need a second chance.”
